Susan Hollweg, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2019 in her home in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born in Kansas City, Missouri on December 5, 1957, the sixth of seven children born to the late June and John Motley.
Susan graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City with a degree in education. After graduation, she taught in various elementary schools in Kansas, New York and Colorado. Blessed with a keen intellect, Susan combined her natural talents with hard work, which resulted in her receiving numerous commendations for excellence in teaching, including a personal note from a U.S. Senator from Colorado recognizing her performance.
Susan devoted herself to raising her three boys, Christian, Luke and Jake, and more recently her granddaughter, Evelynn. Susan supported her husband, Tim, and her children at all times, through struggle and triumph equally. She worked tirelessly to educate and touch the lives of her young students, providing some of them a mother figure they never had.
Susan radiated joy. Constantly smiling, positive and exuberant, she always filled the room with happiness. Susan treated everyone she met the same, with compassion and respect, and without judgment. Susan was widely loved, and she valued her lifelong friendships with many of her childhood friends and colleagues from her teaching years.
Susan was an outdoor girl at heart. She loved hiking and skiing with Tim and her sons. While at home, Susan enjoyed gardening, home improvement projects (which she did all by herself!) and feeding the birds and critters that frequently visited her backyard in Colorado. Susan also loved spending quality time with Tim during their tropical vacations to Cozumel.
Susan’s vibrant spirit remains with her dedicated husband, Tim Hollweg; loving children, Christian, Luke and Jake Hollweg; beautiful granddaughter, Evelynn Hollweg; close siblings, June Ricks, Ann Jones, John Motley, Bill Motley and David Motley; and several wonderful nieces, nephews and friends.
A Celebration of Susan’s Life will take place at 501 North Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado, on March 16, 2019 at 2:00 PM. Susan has asked that any memorial contributions be made to the National Ataxia Foundation at https://ataxia.org.
