

MSgt Vernon Nelson Johnson, USAF, Retired, 77, of Colorado Springs passed away on August 7, 2012 after a hard fought battle with cancer. Vernon was born on March 28, 1935 on the family farm in Rising Sun, Maryland. He attended Rising Sun High School.
Vernon proudly served his country for 25 years. He married Agnes Oinaala in Dryden, Ontario, Canada on November 11, 1954. He and his family lived in Sioux Lookout, Ontario, Canada; Cape Cod, MA; St. Johnsbury, VT; Syracuse, NY; Pearl City, HI; Enon, OH and Colorado Springs, CO. After retirement from military service, he worked in the banking industry. His favorite pastimes were researching family history, watching NASCAR racing, rock hunting and panning for gold.
Vernon is survived by his wife Agnes, her sister Margie Oinaala of Blenheim, Ontario, Canada, and his brothers Wayne “Kirk” (Susan) and Owen of Elkin, NC. He was very proud of his children: sons Vernon Jr. (Joan) of Colorado Springs and Tom (Lynne) of Chugiak, Alaska; daughters Debbie (Joe Krawczak) of Woodinville, Washington and Diane of Talent, Oregon. Vernon was equally proud of and enjoyed spending time with his eight grandchildren: Shannon, James, Michael, Andrew, Justin and Ryan Johnson, and Sarah and Elizabeth Krawczak. He was preceded in death by parents Vera (Kincaid) and Edgar Johnson and brother Christopher “Carl” Johnson.

A reception to celebrate Vern’s life will be held from 1 to 3 PM on Sunday, August 12th at Mountain View Mortuary, 2350 Montebello Square Drive, Colorado Springs.
