Viola was born on November 10, 1942, at General Hospital in McAlester, Oklahoma, to Archie L. Walker and Nolan McManes. She was the second of three children, with an older brother, Tommy, and a younger brother, Archie. She spent her formative years in Oklahoma, where she developed strong values, warm spirit, and Viola graduated from McAlester High School in 1959. After graduation, she attended Oklahoma City Community College for a year before setting her sights north in search of new opportunities.
It was during this journey—aboard a Greyhound bus—that she met her future husband, Harold Lux. He was returning home on leave from the Army, and Viola was traveling to Chicago, embracing the promise of a new chapter. What began as a chance encounter soon grew into a lifelong love story.
They were married on August 28, 1963, beginning a devoted partnership that would span 63 years.
Beth and Harold began their married life in Palatine, Illinois, where they welcomed their two children, April Michele and Steven Harold. During this time, Beth worked as a keypunch operator for Union Oil in Schaumburg, Illinois.
In 1974, drawn by the beauty and spirit of the West, they relocated to Colorado after a family trip left a lasting impression—it was love at first sight. That decision would shape the rest of their lives.
Beth went on to work for Aircraft Mechanics Inc. in Colorado Springs for nearly 30 years, serving in the accounting department. She had a remarkable understanding of the business, with insight into both the financial operations and the complexities of aircraft seat production and international carriers. It was a demanding and multifaceted role, which she carried out with dedication and quiet excellence.
Beth and Harold made their home in the Manitou Springs area, where they resided for the past 52 years, building a life rooted in family, natural beauty, and the enduring spirit of the mountains.
Viola is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Harold Lux of Manitou Springs, Colorado; her daughter and son-in-law, April and Joe Maresh of Omaha, Nebraska; and her son, Steven Lux of Phoenix, Arizona.
She is also lovingly remembered by her five grandchildren: Collin Kelly and his wife, Kelsey, of Elkhorn, Nebraska; Casey Kelly and her husband, Sam, of Omaha, Nebraska; Tyler Lux of Tucson, Arizona; Gabrielle Lux of Gilbert, Arizona; and Zachary Lux of Nashville, Tennessee.
Her legacy continues through her four great-grandchildren: Cameron, Keira, Callahan and Beau.
Viola is further survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Gussie and Richard Hillburn of Savannah, Oklahoma; her stepfather, Bill Muncy of McAlester, Oklahoma; as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Archie L. Walker and Nolan Muncy; and her brothers, Tommy and Archie.
