

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Walter Davenport, Sr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Walter departed this life on February 28, 2025, at the age of 96, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and dedication to family and country.
Born on January 3, 1929, in Holly Grove, Arkansas, Walter grew up with a strong sense of duty and service, which led him to a distinguished career in the United States Army. Rising through the ranks, he retired as a First Sergeant, earning the respect of his fellow soldiers and leaving a lasting impact on those he mentored. His years in the military instilled in him the values of perseverance, discipline, and honor—principles he carried into every aspect of his life.
After retiring from the Army, Walter pursued higher education and earned his Bachelor of Science degree, proving that learning and growth have no age limit. His commitment to self-improvement and education inspired his children and grandchildren to strive for excellence in their own lives.
Walter was the proud father of six children: John (now deceased), Walter Jr., Glen, Dennis, Deric, and his only daughter, Jean. He cherished his role as a father, providing unwavering support and wisdom. His love extended to his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will forever remember his warm smile, guiding words, and the cherished stories he shared from his remarkable life. His legacy of love and strength will continue to live on through the generations he nurtured and inspired.
Faith was at the core of Walter’s life. As a member of the Gideons International, he worked to spread the Word of God, ensuring that Bibles were available to those in need. His heart for service extended to the elderly through his involvement with the Silver Key program, where he dedicated his time helping seniors in the community.
Walter leaves behind his devoted wife, Edie, with whom he shared many beautiful years of love and companionship. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, resilience, and faith—a home that became a foundation for generations to come.
A man of integrity, kindness, and quiet strength, Walter touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he has departed from this world, his legacy of love, service, and perseverance will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home & Cemetery, 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs, CO, 80910.
Funeral service will be, Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at Memorial Gardens at 11:00 AM.
Following the service, he will be laid to rest with full military honors at Pikes Peak National Cemetery, 10545 Drennan Road, Colorado Springs, CO, 80925.
