Walter Novak passed away in Colorado Springs on Saturday, February 24th, 2018 at the age of 73. He was born in Munich, Germany on April 19th, 1944, and moved to Colorado Springs in 1952. He graduated from Palmer High School in 1961 and attended Colorado College and the University of Colorado in Boulder. He was employed as a CPA in Colorado Springs for many years.
Walter had a lifelong love of Chess, and in 1972 he was awarded the title of Colorado Springs City Chess Champion. He loved to tell a good joke, and when he was younger, he enjoyed hiking and skiing.
He is survived by his mother, Valentina Novak, his daughter and son-in-law Christina and Edward Grocholski, and grandchildren Alex, Ryan, and Kyle. He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Novak, and his daughter, Katherine Novak. We wish to extend a special thanks to Walter’s good friend, Tom, for all of his help during Walter’s illness.
In keeping with Walter’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Heart Association.
