

Bayonne, N.J. He passed away on Oct 6, 2015 in Bluffton S.C. Warren grew
up in N.J. where he excelled at electronics and engineering. Warren was an
avid Amateur Radio operator W0YNE, Pilot, Boy Scout, Red Cross Volunteer
and Police Volunteer. At 14 years old he was repairing the local police
station radios. Warren attended the University of Pennsylvania, where Phi
Delta Theta fraternity brother Jack Lee, introduced him to Arlene Benner
from Philadelphia. He married Arlene on August 20, 1960. Warren started
his professional & married life working for RCA setting up the Military Early
Warning Microwave stations in Goose Bay, Labrador. They moved
overseas to contract postings for the US Government in Spain, Italy and
Germany, with their two young children Brian and Carole. In Italy they
added Tim, the youngest. In 1971 they moved to Colorado Springs,
to take a job with the Air Force where he worked at NORAD, Peterson Field,
Chidlaw Building. Between 1971 and 2006 they lived in Colorado Springs,
with homes in Garden Ranch and Black Forest. He spent 20 years designing
and building communications solutions, receiving numerous awards and
commendations. Warren introduced the Air Force to fibre optics in the 70’s
when they ran out of room to run more copper wires into the underground
facility at the Cheyenne Mountain Complex. He finished with the Air Force
in 1988 and went to Ford Aerospace, where he managed the building of
Nuclear Command and Control stations. During his time in Colorado Springs,
Warren was the President of the Mountain Aero Flying Club and President
of the Amateur Radio Club. He was active in the Pikes Peak Council BSA,
where he was awarded the Silver Beaver for his service to the scouting
programs. Warren was a long-standing Wood Badge member. Warren and
Arlene were on staff at several national Scout Jamborees. Warren was the
owner of a 2-way radio business that saw him drive to the top of Cheyenne
Mountain to work on the repeaters he owned for his customers.
Warren built numerous communications devices that were used in the trains
at the Manitou Incline, the Cog Railway and the water system for Steamboat
Springs. In the late 80’s Warren was the Timing Stewart for the Pikes Peak
Hill Climb, and brought it into the computer age, replacing the old system,
which used stopwatches. After leaving Ford Aerospace, Warren worked a
short time for AT&T Federal Systems before fully retiring to continue his
volunteering efforts, which saw him, help build and develop the Challenger
Learning Center. Warren spent the rest of his time assisting with American
Red Cross – Colorado Springs Chapter, where he received a Lifetime
Commitment Award. Warren is survived by his wife of 55 years Arlene,
his children Brian (Tammy), Carole (Mike) and Tim (Jacqueline). He was
loved by his 11 grandchildren: Carl, Melody, Luke, Alaina, Brandon, Rachel,
Ellie, Alex, Kira, Flynn and Ethan. There will be a viewing on Tuesday
Oct 13 between 10am and 12pm at Swan Law Funeral Home, at 501 North
Cascade Ave. The funeral service will be on Tuesday Oct 13 at Our Lady
of the Pines Catholic Church 11020 Teachout Rd, starting at 4pm.
the internment will be on Wednesday Oct 14 at 9am at Memorial Gardens
Cemetery, 3825 Airport Rd. In lieu of flowers please make donations to
