

Wilbur was born on October 19, 1912 in Ivanhoe, Oklahoma to Otis and Cora Bell (Jett) Johnson and moved to Fountain, Colorado in 1919. On October 6, 1941 he started working for the Santa Fe Railroad. On February 20, 1942 Wilbur joined the Army. While in the Army, Wilbur fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was Honorably Discharged on December 8, 1945. Wilbur received these decorations and citations: 1 Bronze Campaign Star, American Theatre Ribbon, Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon, Combat Infantryman Badge, Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster. Wilbur then returned to working for the Railroad until his retirement as a conductor in January of 1975.
Wilbur met Myrnie Tobias at the USO, they were married for 53 years until her passing in 2002. They enjoyed traveling especially if it included long road trips. They enjoyed their pet Chihuahuas. Wilbur was a member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, a life member of the B.P.O.E, and United Transportation Union for 68 continuous years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Cora Bell Johnson, his step-mother Maude Johnson, his brother Elmer, and sisters, Irene, Edna, Hazel, Roberta and Oleta.
He is survived by nephews Robert Matney (Paula), Richard Matney (Marilyn), niece, Averill Holtz (Paul), numerous great-nephews and nieces, and numerous great-great-nephews and nieces.
Wilbur's family wishes to thank the staff at the Medalion Retirement Community for their loving care of Wilbur as they too were his "family".
A graveside service with military honors will be conducted at the Evergreen Cemetery, Colorado Springs, Colorado on Monday, January 26, 2015 at 11:00 AM, followed by a memorial service at the Medalion Retirement Community, Colorado Springs, Colorado at 1:30 PM. Chaplin David Campbell will officiate
