With deep sorrow, we share that Yasuko Swope, 90, passed away on December 28, 2025, surrounded by her family’s love. Her vibrant presence, generosity, and kind spirit touched many.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jeff; her parents Shitsukitchi and Oto Koki; her daughter Patricia; and her son in law Dwight Oyler. She is survived by her daughters Kiyomi Omine (Yasunobu), Sharlette Silva (Jim), Marie Oyler, Linda Foor (Terry), and Sally Swope Morehead (Richard), 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, her sister Sumiko Davis (Loyd) in Colorado, and in Okinawa, 4 brothers Shigeru Koki (Kiyoko), Kazuyuki Koki (Yoko), Kazuhiro Koki (Kiyomi), Kazuya Koki and a sister Kazuko Ishimine.
Born in Okinawa as the eldest daughter of seven children, Yasuko grew up during the war and learned early the meaning of resilience, responsibility, and sacrifice. Those qualities shaped her entire life and she became known for her strength and compassion for others.
Her home was always open--a place filled with festive cooking, laughter and gatherings around her table. Her Japanese manjū, sato tempura, and Christmas fruitcakes were more than just recipes, they became legendary expressions of love. Every summer, she and her husband looked forward to returning to their secret mountain spots to scout for matsutake mushrooms, a tradition that grew into annual hunting expeditions that they so enjoyed with friends.
She found joy in Bible studies, community events, karaoke, and gardening. She also spent each afternoon logging many miles up on her neighborhood walking trail. Her warm smile, quick wit and playful banter left lasting impressions on everyone she encountered.
Anchored by 51 years of marriage to Jeff, she built a family rooted in grace. As a proud member of the Okinawan Kenjinkai of Colorado, she upheld the heritage she cherished and kept close ties both near and far. She leaves behind a lasting legacy. Hers was a life of courage and a heart that never stopped giving.
Though God has called her home, we remain very grateful for every moment we shared.
*Family and friends are invited to gather and honor Yasuko and share their fondest memories. Memorial services start at 10:00 am on Friday, January 23, 2025 at Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Airport Boulevard in Colorado Springs, Colorado. A brief committal service and reception will follow immediately after the memorial service.
