

Alberto, known as Berting to family and close friends, was born on april 8, 1951 in the city of Bailen, Cavite in the Philippines to Demetrio Golfo and the late Epifania De Zosa. Berting's childhood was spent in Bailen, followed by Waipahu, Hawaii, then Alameda, California, and finally Long Beach, California. He moved back to the Philippines for his secondary education, which started at the Bailen Western Institute and ended at the Mapua Institute of Technology.
He began college at Far Eastern University in Manila, where he was the news editor of the FEU Advocate Student Publication. Because of his political views and activism, Alberto was added to the Philippine government's blacklist when Martial Law was passed in 1972. This led to his enlistment in the United States Navy.
During Alberto's enlistment in the U.S. Navy, he received a naval scholarship and completed his education at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Chemistry. Alberto served until 1981, completing his naval career as a Lieutenant Commander on the USS Hamner.
Alberto then moved to California and went on to work for a pharmaceutical company until his retirement in 2014.
Alberto met his wife, Sonita Campana Yao, in 1982, and they were married on March 13, 1986. She survives Alberto. Also, surviving are: children, Anna, Michael (Elizabeth), Tiffany, and Albert James, beloved grandchildren, Maria, and Emelia, father, Demetrio, and younger siblings, Myrna (Dennis), Roland (Alma), Michael (Rachel), and Jennylyn (Andrew). He was preceded in death by his mother, Epifania, and brother, Jeffrey.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 4, 2016, 4-8 p.m., and Funeral Service on Saturday, March 5, 2016, at 1 p.m., both at Montecito Valley View Chapel, 3520 E. Washington St.. Colton, California, followed by burial at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery.
Alberto "Berting" will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
