

Bernard (Bernie) Nymeyer was born in San Bernardino on June 5, 1931. He was the youngest of Marvin and Tillie Nymeyer’s 7 children. He was 91 years old when he died peacefully with his loving wife by his side at home in Banning, CA on October 7, 2022.
As a child, Bernie attended Redlands Christian School. He graduated from San Bernardino High School in 1948 and went on to attend San Bernardino Valley College. During his 2nd year of college, he was drafted and he served in the Air Force in Japan. Upon returning, he graduated from San Bernardino Valley College in 1953.
On October 14, 1953, Bernie married Barbara Mulder. Through their 69 years of commitment to each other, they were blessed with 2 children, 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Bernie loved spending time with his family and making them laugh. Bernie and Barbara lived in Redlands for all of their married life and moved to Sun Lakes in Banning in 2007.
Bernie was a deacon and member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Redlands and at Immanuel Baptist Church. His faith was a very important part of his life. He facilitated the Overcomers Outreach group and encouraged many people in their relationships with the Lord through this ministry.
He worked as branch manager at McKesson Chemical in Riverside for 25 years. Upon retirement, he served as the grounds chair at Immanuel Baptist. He spent much of his time tending to his plants and bringing beauty to his yard. In his retirement years, he turned his love of plants into a hobby and small business. Bernie was known for his love of palms and orchids. He helped many family and friends with selecting palms for their landscape. He also enjoyed traveling, fishing and golfing.
He leaves behind his wife Barbara, his two children: Dennis (Jan) Nymeyer and Brenda Michal, three grandchildren: Krista (Ben) Gradias, Kevin (Lindsey) Nymeyer, and Justin Michal, and two great-grandchildren: Madyson and Malia.
A celebration of his life will be at 2:00pm on Thursday, October 20th at the Immanuel Baptist Chapel in Highland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: The Building Fund at Immanuel Baptist Church, 28355 Baseline Street, Highland, California. https://ibchighland.org/give
