I want to begin by thanking everyone for being here not only today, but for being with us in the past, and especially for being with us these past couple of months. The hardest months of our lives. She has touched so many lives and left an impact everywhere she went. Her laughter and smile could make anyone's day. She was a compassionate mother, daughter, sister, cousin, Tia, grandma, and friend. We should all take great pride and joy in knowing how special of a person she was. I never get tired of hearing how she was everyone’s favorite.
My mother was a beautiful woman inside and out, she was practically a second mother to many people here. Mom's love was evident in every action she took, and words she said. She made her love known.
She received everyone with open arms and never judged them. We always make fun of her for always letting someone live in her home. We even nicknamed our house hotel Esperanza. Now I realize, she simply always wanted to make sure everyone was taken care of. That everyone had something to eat, a place to sleep and relax, and a home full of love.
She had this magical power to make your problems disappear with just her smile and touch. Her advice was always wise. When my life was at its hardest, she was the one to let me know everything was going to be ok. “Se dios quiero” is what she would always say, and in the end it truly is up to God's will because he knows what’s best for us all. She would tell me what to do, how to do it, or maybe sometimes she would tell me I should just go out and get a drink.
She was born in Torreón, Cosehuala and to the very end was proud of her Mexican heritage. She was proud of her step father, Frank Delgado. I wish I had time to tell everyone here of the beautiful stories she would tell me about him. She was proud of moving here to America, because it is here she made her family, friends, and her mark. She was a proud woman, until the very end.
I’ll always love the story of how my mother and father met. She was driving her brother- in-law's car when all of a sudden, a man appeared in front of the car. She stomped on the brakes screaming but luckily stopped right before him. In response the man cussed her out, and she cussed him back. They would get married to each other two years later. To think my mother and father only met because she decided to ditch school that day. It blows my mind to think of how that one single decision, would change all our lives forever. But as she said, “se dios quiere”, and Gods will truly is powerful and a blessing.
I always knew my mother was loved by many, but hearing everyone’s prayers and kind words just how much she meant to them, is healing. She opened her doors and always made sure everyone was well feed. I like to think God simply grew impatient and took her so he could finally try her famous Tamales. I bet she’s telling Jesus how to set up the table right now.
The best word to describe my mother is superwomen. She always made sure to take care of her mother and never complained. I never really understood how much pain she must’ve felt, and the strength that it must've taken to take care of her mother in her last days, now I do. As a little girl I greatly admired her, and I made a promise to her that I would always take care of her with the same love that she took care of her own mother with. When my mother was in the hospital kissed me and told me I was doing a great job.
Mamita you made a strong independent daughter, a caring and loveable son, sure a little annoying at times, but lovable. You fell in love with a great man, who was there by your side every day, until the end. I aspire to be like you and continue your legacy of always loving and caring for others. God knows how much I miss you everyday, how much we all miss you everyday. God also knows how much pain you’ve been in. I take great comfort in knowing you're not in pain anymore. Thank you for being amazing, and thank God we all had the chance to know you. Being your daughter has truly been a blessing that I can never begin to express how thankful I am for.
I know you were holding in to see Diego graduate and be successful. Please rest in paradise knowing he will not let you down. Thank you for being the best mom and grandmother. Forever and always you will be in our hearts. Primero Dios.
