

Duane Scott Oliva, age 72, a lifelong resident of Colton, passed away February 23, 2020 at Jerry L. Pettis Memorial Veterans’ Hospital surrounded by loved ones. Duane was born June 4, 1947 to the late Mayor Pascual S. Oliva and Genevieve C. Oliva. Duane is proceeded in death by brother Randy. He is survived by his wife Anna Valenzuela-Oliva, Daughter Angel Renay Oliva, Grandson Adrian Palomino, and his three sisters, Gerri, Debra, and Deidre, along with a close circle of family and friends. In his high school years Duane attended Colton High School. He was active in sports, playing on the Football and Basketball teams. Duane was a self-taught musician following in his father’s footsteps as a drummer. In the mid-1960’s he was the drummer for the local band “THE PEASANTS” and various other bands over the years. In 1966 Duane was drafted by the U.S. Army serving in the Vietnam War as part of the 9th Infantry Division. On January 1, 1968 he sustained major injuries causing him to be medically retired. Duane loved spending time with his family in Lake Mohave, he also enjoyed shooting hoops, playing racquet ball, and a round of golf when he could. He loved to dance, going to sporting events, and enjoyed being called “Coach.” He will always be remembered for making people laugh, his compassion for others, and being a devoted Husband, Father, and Grandpa Dad. He will be deeply missed by his family and those who knew him
