Edgardo Vales Yu was born in Rosario, Cavite, Philippines on December 14, 1943 as the third child of Ignacio and Agripina Yu, and sixth child of eight overall. He passed away in Loma Linda, CA on April 23, 2024, privileged to have recently turned 80.
Eddie was in the United States Navy for ten years, during which he became a Corpsman and even served in Vietnam. While stationed in Long Beach, CA, Eddie was introduced to the love of his life, Letty. Together, they enjoyed over 53 years of marriage... throwing big parties, traveling the world, and raising their only child.
Even as a young boy, Eddie had an entrepreneurial attitude, selling cigarettes in the streets before he was even a teenager. After the Navy, he worked for the post office before owning his own vending machine business and eventually opening a video rental store. He loved to play tennis, sometimes played golf, and even joined a bowling league. As the adventurous one, Eddie wanted to try everything from zip lining to carrying a giant python around his neck. To keep things lively, he made use of his love of the news and history to educate and ask trivia questions. Eddie handled his many health issues with grace; doctors often marveled that he was one of the longest surviving kidney transplant recipients they knew.
Eddie is pre-deceased by his parents, his half-siblings Joven Marasigan, Teodorico Lian, and Lydia Lian Oliva, and brother Pepito Yu. He is survived by his devoted wife, Leticia, daughter, Christina (Craig) Bailey, siblings Fernando (Candelaria) Yu, Edna (Arlo, Sr.) Nunez, Leticia (Josue, Jr.) Cafuir, sister-in-law Arceli Keh, and many extended family members including his niece, Cynthia Keh, whose support in the last month in particular was immeasurable. Eddie talked to every person that crossed his path and is dearly loved and missed by his family and friends. We are sure he’s giving us all a ‘thumbs up’ from heaven...
