Mom was born September 25, 1930 in Coddenham England. She lived mostly in Bramford in her childhood home called Veranda house. Kevin, Lynton and Vanessa spent some time at the house, especially Kevin, since he was born there! Andrew, Philip and Janine were able to visit and stay there as well.
Mom met Dad in England and got married on September 9, 1953. Kevin was born the following year. In 1955, they moved to Australia where Dad attended Avondale College (making Ruskett’s on the side to earn extra money). Lynton was born there and soon after they moved to Tasmania where Vanessa was born. All three siblings where causing problems for poor Mom and Dad in the outback, so they decided they needed a change. Mom was not use to the heat and flies in Australia.
In 1966, they moved to England, temporarily, since Mom was missing England and her parents (in which she got along very well with, especially her Mother!!). They were met by Dad later and moved to London where Lynton got into trouble with the locals.
In 1967, Dad decided he wanted to immigrate to the United States and they set sail on Queen Elizabeth I. They ended up moving to Pomona, California where Dad became a teacher at Pomona Junior Academy and later became the principle. Mom ran the household very efficiently and did the household finances with great success.
In 1968, Andrew was born (the first born American in the Elston-Hurdle family of immigrants).
Fourteen months later Mom’s pride and joy Janine and Philip were born in 1969. She was overjoyed with having twins at the age of 39.
In 1974, Dad accepted a job at Newbury Park Academy and Mom started working at Faith for Today as a Bible instructor. In 1997, Dad retired and they moved to Grand Terrace.
Dad passed away in 2008 and Mom continued to live in their townhome until 2021.
Mom never learned to drive and when Dad passed away she relied on us to take her to her medical appointments, grocery shopping and the mall. She also went out to eat weekly and went to our houses to eat as well every week. When we took her shopping she always wanted the same things, so Landis and Philip would know exactly what she wanted. We all helped her even when she became difficult and stubborn! We will miss her personality and her insistence on doing things her way!
She leaves six children, ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren from our wonderful blended families!
