

John was born into the Esson family in Sanria, Ontario, Canada and moved to Detroit, Michigan where he lived until WW2. After high school he became an airman in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was stationed in England throughout the war as a rear gunner. After the war he married Helen Langdon and started a family with a daughter Margaret Ann and a son Earl. He was a methods engineer for Chevrolet during the day and went to GM Tech at nights. In 1957 he moved to California. In Canoga Park, CA he worked for Rocketdyne on projects for developing rocket motors and developing the space shuttle. In the evenings he completed his AA degree at Los Angeles Pierce College. His hobbies included bike riding, skiing, skin diving, and flying. John was a member of the First Baptist Church and helped with construction projects there.In 1985 he and Helen retired to Redlands, CA and joined the First Baptist Church there. He did consulting work for MTM. Until 2006 he flew search and rescue mission for the Civil Air Patrol.John is survived by 2 children, four grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.Viewing was held for John Wednesday January 20, 2010 from 4-8PM at Montecito Laurelwood Chapel. Chapel service was held on Thursday January 21, 2010 at 10:30AM at Montecito Mortuary Valley View Chapel. Arrangements under the direction of Montecito Memorial Park & Mortuary, Colton, CA.
