It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of Louis “Louie” Lopez, in the early hours of Monday, October 25th. Louie was truly an angel here on earth who brightened every room he walked into and all who met him instantly fell in love with him. Louie was a 2018 Redlands High School graduate from the Studio 24 Transition Program for students with disabilities. While attending the program he worked hard and learned vocational skills to help him secure employment when he graduated. Amongst the many places he trained, he earned a spot on the pilot custodial mentor program at RHS and also helped out whenever he could while riding the bus to and from school. After graduation Louie successfully passed his First Aid and CPR tests to become a substitute bus aide with RUSD. He was ecstatic to see his hard work pay off and so proud of his accomplishments as he was seeing his dreams come true. He was beloved by staff, parents and students on his routes, but his passion was to be hired as a custodian with RUSD, so he continued to volunteer and mentor the younger students in the Studio 24 Program between his bus aide shifts. Louie was a familiar face on the Redlands High School campus and always had a smile for everyone. RHS was his home away from home and when on campus he felt pride for all the hard work he had dedicated to it. He felt the same way about his work family in the Transportation department. Louie was also very active in the Xtreme Team Sports and enjoyed playing football and baseball with his teammates that were also his lifelong friends. Louie’s family and friends are all heartbroken and the community he blessed daily will forever miss his gentle and loving presence. His passing is going to leave a very big void in all our lives.
We are raising money to offset the funeral expenses for the sudden passing of Louie and to lessen the financial burden on his family at this most difficult time. This has been overwhelming for them and any help would be greatly appreciated. When services have been planned we hope to see everyone there to let the world know how special he was to all of us. Please feel free to contact Louie’s former teacher Judy White at RHS if you have any questions.
Thank you to everyone who has been sending love and prayers to Louie’s family
