Luchus Willie Mack Jr. (aka Luke) passed away on Wednesday August 9, 2023 with his family and friends by his side. He was born on December 28, 1957 to Luchus Sr. and Gloria Mack in Los Angeles California, the only boy of 7 children. He was an ambitious energetic city boy who loved to play trumpet. He earned his GED in 1977 and went on to earn his Associates degree from Compton Community College.
Luke was introduced to the truth of God’s word at a young age and dedicated his life to Jehovah thru baptism on September 21, 1973. He loved Jehovah and looked forward to life without pain or suffering in a paradise on earth.
In 1975 at just 17, Luke married his soul mate Ornett. They were married for 48 years and together raised their 2 children. He was a devoted loving husband and father who worked very hard to provide a good environment for his family and supported them all throughout the many accomplishments and difficulties of their lives. Throughout their marriage they were able to travel to many destinations and he loved a good cruise, not just any cruise, 7 days minimum is what he liked best. Many memories were made with his family camping at various destinations for 40 + years. It was a joyous time with his wife, kids and his camping friends.
Luke began his career at Southern California Gas Company in 1977 and worked his way up the ladder moving around to various positions throughout the company. During his time at The Gas Company his coworkers and associates became family; his associates would describe him as kind, thoughtful, funny, and charismatic. Everyone who got to know or work with Luke appreciated his warm smile and compassionate nature. If there were 50 people in a room, Luke was sure to know 49 of them. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and share his advice and very quickly became a source support, a fountain of knowledge and a pillar of strength to all who got to know him. A no nonsense type of man who still managed to be a friend to all. To say he personified “Glad to be of Service” would be an understatement. Luke would come to retire in 2015 at age 58. During his retirement he spent time traveling with his wife, playing golf and spending time with all his grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his Father Luchus Mack Sr., Mother Gloria Mack, his sisters Lois Mack, Norine Coates, Constance Redford, and Phylis Keith and Sister In-law Martha Watson
