Mavis Isoline Thompson was the youngest of five children born on April 16, 1923 in Colon, Panama to Arthur and Mary Jane Blackwood. She met and married her husband, Copeland, on April 24, 1954 following the return of her family from Panama to Jamaica. To this union, five children were born.
The family moved to Los Angeles, California in 1968 where Mavis worked as a legal stenographer, and subsequently as a medical transcriptionist. She was active in the Episcopalian church community, enjoyed singing in the church choir with the lilting voice of an angel.
Preceded in death by her husband Copeland in 2007, her two sisters, Doris and Ivy, two brothers, Gilbert and Hector, she is survived by her five children, Fay, Patrick, Desmond, Annette and Hugh, grandchildren Lance, Christopher, Michelle, Mavis, Patrice, Prince, Desmond II, Hugh, Sade, Alicia, Isaiah, Quincy, Rosa, Huey, Patrick Jr., Perris, Pierre, Perrion, seven great grandchildren, host of nieces, nephews, relatives and loving friends.
