MONICA BECERRIL – age 77, passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord with her family, relatives and friends by her side on Sunday evening, September 12, 2010, in her home in San Bernardino. Monica was born May 4, 1933 in Ft. Madison, Iowa. Her parents were Tranquilino (Lino) and Altagracia Estrada. At the age of 16 she came with her mother for a visit to San Bernardino where she met her true love and married him several months later.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother she is survived by her husband of 60 years, Elpidio, and her children; daughter Angie Webb (husband Allen), Richard (fiancé Anna), Robert (wife Mandy), Ronald (wife Yvonne), and Raymond (wife Michelle). She was preceded in death by her daughter Mona. Monica had 8 grandchildren – Adrienne, Adam, Michelle, Danielle, Marisa, Eric, Robert (RJ), Sarah, and 1 great-granddaughter Mia Mona. She was known as “mom” and “grandma” to many. Monica will also be lovingly remembered as a sister, sister-in-law, aunt to many nieces and nephews, and a dear friend to many. Her sisters include Esperanza (late husband Frank), Vera (husband Jesse), Mickey (husband Joe) both preceded her in death, Frances (CL husband Felipe–also brother to Elpidio), and Sally. Her brothers include Clarence (wife Mary) who both preceded her in death, Tony (wife Evelyn), Matthew (wife Amelia). Her family included her half brothers and sisters in Mexico: Cresencio, Apollonia, Guadalupe, and Juan.
Through the years, Monica had used her God-given talents as a good cook – collecting many recipes along the way, a great babysitter, a church vocalist and pianist, and a good seamstress for her family, relatives and some friends. Proverbs 31 would describe our dear mother. Though she and our dad went through many challenges throughout the years, they were both quick to say they also received many blessings as well that made them stronger and closer to the Lord. We will never forget her laughter, and the many times she helped others.
A 10:00am viewing and 11:00am funeral service will be held on Friday, September 17th at First Baptist Church by Pastor Jim Newell, 4747 N. State Street, San Bernardino. Interment will follow at Montecito Memorial Park, 3520 East Washington Street in Colton. Reception to follow the brief burial service at First Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, Monica would have preferred that donations be made to First Baptist Church for the children’s ministries as she enjoyed helping out whenever she could with activities reaching out to the youth at church and those visiting from the neighborhood. Monica and Elpidio were members of First Baptist Church.
