passed away with family by his side at Johns Hopkins Hospital on November 15th, 2023. He was born on January 25th, 1941 in Washington DC to the late Alexander Robert Curtis and Jean (Timmons) Curtis. He attended The Bullis School in Potomac, MD and the University of Maryland, College Park. He served in the US Army as a medic in the Green Berets, as a Ranger, and in the 82nd Airborne. Sandy was an avid golfer and skier, and worked for almost 30 years at Ski Liberty. He learned how to ski while stationed in Germany, jumping out of “perfectly good airplanes”, with skis on his back. He was always one for adventure, still skiing at 82.
Sandy worked for Litton and McBee for almost 40 years as a Sales Manager. He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, and a great friend to many. Sandy had a great sense of humor, was outgoing, and loved talking to people. Willing to strike up a conversation with everyone and anyone, he was a joy to be around. Sandy especially enjoyed being at his farm in the Shenandoah Valley of Luray, Virginia with family and friends.
He was preceded by his granddaughter Charlotte Sophia Evans, and is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carol (Baker) Curtis, his sister Susan (Curtis) Warren, his son Matthew Curtis and wife Eileen (and their children Heidi, Greta and Elsa) of Castle Rock, CO, and daughter Caroline (Curtis) Evans, her husband Richard (and their children Colton and Bodhi) of Bradford, VT and his yellow lab, Daisy.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 2nd at 1 PM at Witzke Funeral Homes Inc., 5555 Twin Knolls Rd, Columbia MD 21045. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sandy’s name to the Shenandoah National Park Association of Luray, VA or The Howard County Conservancy of Woodstock, MD.
