It’s with great sorrow I announce the passing of Don Sr. after a courageous fight with cancer. Don Sr. passed quietly in his sleep in the company of two of his four sons. With his passing ends his contribution to the Wheeler family legacy. That legacy can be traced all the way back to its beginning of this country’s period of reconstruction in 1865.
Don Sr. played a continuous active role in mentoring and sculpting his four sons David, Daniel, Bill, and Don Jr. to the men they are today. He was always there for them as he held family above everything else. There was never a problem too big or issue too insignificant. He would be there like the air they breathe, no judgement, no criticism just the help they needed.
Don Sr. was an avid and accomplished golfer. He was able to play golf right up until the end, accomplishing several 300 plus golf rounds in a single year. He was able to attend several collegiate level tournaments where his nephew achieved top honors.
Don Sr. was an educator, computer scientist, mathematician, Sr. business executive, and barrier breaker as he led the way for people of color to achieve and prosper at top executive business levels.
Don Sr. is survived by Daniel and Sharron Wheeler and their children Dan Jr. and Jason, Bill and Catherine Wheeler and their children Dana and Patrick, David and Lauren Wheeler and their children Andrew and Erin, and Don and Nola Wheeler.
In keeping with Don Sr.’s wishes there will not be a service before his cremation. We request in lieu of flowers you consider making a donation to The Ulman Cancer Fund For Young Adults, https://ulmanfoundation.org/donate/ . This is a center for care of young people with cancer.
