

John was the son of Arthur and Jennette Dodd. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Christine Fehlner Dodd; his sister, Susan Simchock (John); and his daughters Maureen Martin (Eric), Anna Kroll, and Monica Brooks (Byron). He was a proud grandfather to Brennan and Dawson Martin, Avery and Carson Kroll, and Zachary Brooks.
A lifelong learner, John graduated from Paul D. Schreiber Senior High School and earned degrees from the University of Maryland (BS in Manufacturing Engineering) and American University (Master's Degree in Management of Technology: Computer Science and Information Systems).
John began his career as a software programmer at Unisys and spent 43 years at Computer Sciences Corporation, contributing to major NASA, Intelligence, and Air Traffic Control programs. He was recognized for work supporting the 1988 launch and deployment of the TDRS-3 satellite on Space Shuttle Discovery and was a CSC finalist for the Award for Excellence in 2012.
In later years, John focused on healthcare technology, serving in leadership roles supporting CMS, HHS and other public agencies. In retirement he founded BCD Health-IT, authored Health IT Transformation, and developed LifePulse360 to support care coordination for veterans, older adults, and chronic care patients.
John was an active member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and enjoyed golf, basketball, and University of Maryland sports— and especially cheering on his grandchildren. Known for his kindness and gift for conversation, he will be remembered for his devotion to family and friends. A service to celebrate his life will be held Monday, April 13, 2026, 12:00 PM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 10431 Twin Rivers Road, Columbia, Maryland 21044.
