

Mark Slater of Ellicott City, Maryland, formerly of New Market, Maryland, died October 6, 2017 after a decade-long battle with cancer. Born on January 10, 1939 in Kansas City Missouri, he grew up in California and New York and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Duke University in 1961. He served proudly in the United States Navy from 1962 to 1968 attaining the rank of Lieutenant. He received his law degree from the Washington College of Law of the American University in 1969 and practiced law in the District of Columbia until his retirement in 2014. His specialty was assisting companies in competing for and performing government contracts primarily in shipbuilding and related industries.
Mark was an enthusiastic golfer who enjoyed many rounds with the Clustered Spires Association members in Frederick, Maryland and with his life-long buddies from Columbia, Maryland. His bridge group in Columbia was one of the pleasures of his life for over 40 years.
Mark was predeceased by his wife of nearly 50 years, Alice Betts Slater, in 2013, and his brother, Samuel Slater, in 1987. He is survived by his wife Christine Parcelli, brother John B. Slater, sister Frankie Lee Slater, sister-in-law Sue Slater, niece Alice Slater and nephews Samuel and Andrew Slater.
A memorial service will be held at Witzke Funeral Home, 5555 Twin Knolls Road, Columbia, Maryland at 1:00 on Thursday, October 19, 2017. The family will receive friends at 12:00 before the service.
