Dr. Thomas Frank passed away in his sleep after complications from Alzheimer’s in Columbia Maryland on July 27, 2022 at the age of 78. Tom is survived by his children, Scott (Lainey) of Indianapolis, Indiana and Beth (Joe) of Ellicott City, Maryland; grandchildren, Julia, Anna, Timothy and Sarah; brothers, Carl of San Diego, California and Robb of McCall, Idaho. He is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Frank and Marjorie Lionberger, and his beloved wife, Sunny. Tom was born on January 26, 1944 in Ohio. He spent most of his childhood in South Bend, Indiana. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from Indiana University, a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wyoming, a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from New York University and a doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering from Catholic University of America. Dr. Frank founded a biomedical engineering research company, Perinatronics Medical Systems. He did decades of research funded by the National Institutes of Health and held several patents including one of the first fetal heart rate monitors. He raised his family in Crofton, Maryland and was an avid Mr. Fix-it completing many home renovations and car repairs. He was incredibly passionate about education and had the privilege to serve on the Anne Arundel County School Board from 2015 to 2017. During his tenure he advocated for transparency of data to the public and improving graduation rates. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethany Church 3030 Bethany Lane. Ellicott City, MD 21042.
