

Wentworth Wilder, Jr. (89), who retired in 1987 after 36 years as a field test engineer with the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in Maryland died on June 15 at the Morningside House of Friendship.
Mr. Wilder was born in Alabama, but raised in St. Louis. He served in the Navy during World War II, as did his father, and later graduated from Brown University with a Bachelor and Master's degree in Physics. His career at APL included working on the development and testing of anti-missile missiles and an eight year assignment to the U.S. Third Fleet operating out of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He loved to sing and was a member of a church choir for many years.
On June 15, 2011, Wentworth "Went" Wilder, Jr., passed away. He was the loving father of John Wilder and wife, Meg; Melissa Wilkins and husband, Tex; Brian Wilder and wife, Gigi; and Jan Wilder. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Erik, Ty, Amanda, Kieran, Ailey, great-grandchildren, Sean, Brett, and his loving sister, Nancy Tinkler.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, June 18th from 1-3 p.m., WITZKE FUNERAL HOMES, INC, 5555 Twin Knolls Road, Columbia, where a Memorial remembrance service will begin at 2 p.m.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to ones' favorite charity.
