She was born on January 31, 1931, to Calvin Spencer and Nina (Reider) Spencer in Emporia, KS.
On March 5, 1950, Alice was united in marriage to Orval Duane Moon who preceded her in death.
Alice was a selfless and devoted woman who dedicated her life to serving others. A lifelong member of The Friends Church and then Columbia United Church of Christ, she served faithfully as a Sunday school teacher, youth minister, and leader of the Women’s Fellowship. She volunteered generously at the local food bank and a used clothing organization benefiting childcare homes. Alice was a steadfast supporter of her husband’s pastoral ministry, as well as his 15 years as President of William Penn College (now university) in Oskaloosa Iowa. As a 30-year resident of Lenoir Woods, she played an instrumental role in developing resident programs and enhancing the grounds through her love of landscaping and gardening. Even while living in assisted care herself, she continued to visit and encourage others in nursing homes. Alice wrote weekly letters to her children, maintained her independence, and found joy in quilting, spending time outdoors, and planting countless trees, a passion that reflected her nurturing spirit.
She will be dearly missed by her children, David Moon (Debbie) of Tulsa, OK and Eileen Mullan (Mark) of Des Moines, IA; grandchildren, Mickie Stout, Maria Mead (Rich), Jenai Maslar (Scott), and Deidra Palmer (Nathan); nine great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Duane; and her 7 siblings.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Memorial Funeral Home in Columbia, MO. Friends will be received from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Columbia, MO.
