I was looking up people I used to know years ago and found Bruce's obituary.  I worked with Bruce in 1983 at a hunting camp in Idaho.  I only knew Bruce for about 4 months but he was such an individual.   He used to feed my biscuits to the mules, taught me how to make biscuits and gravy 'the right way',  and gave me a piece of 'chew', which lasted 3 minutes.  It looks like he had an interesting life surrounded by people that loved and respected him.   He had alot of spirt and a kind heart.  My condolences to his family and friends.

I was so sorry to hear this news about Bruce, my name is Jackie Cockrell , I got to meet Bruce at the Bull Pen Cafe in Columbia, Mo. Bruce was a very nice caring person and came in to the Restaurant and ate with us. I worked at the Bull Pen for 30yrs, and owned it for the last 17 yrs that it was open. Bruce became a regular customer and all of us that work there became good friends with him and really enjoyed him eating with us Bruce will definitely be missed by so many so so sorry for your loss. Bruce took me to Nashville to see Alabama play at Opryland with backstage access pass of course. 

I was so sad to learn the passing of Bruce.  I knew him since 1980 and have many great stories… we had good times.  Then after almost 30 years, Iim not sure who “found” who on Facebook - and we kept in touch off and on thru FB.  I was just about to send him a message when I saw he passed.  Darn it… I always thought I’d see him again one day. 
R.I.P. my dear kind friend.  That day will  come - probably sooner than I prefer.  Pat that white Arabian on his neck for me.  But whatever you do - don’t try to rude him.  That never went well for you two.

It was an honor to know and work with Bruce. We had the opportunity to work with Bruce on Alabama. He was a real friend and always a real guy. His kidney challenge never  slowed him from work ........ or hunting. We appreciate the many miles we traveled with him and will always hold this unique and always good hearted individual high in our respect.  Peace and comfort to Bruce and his family. Earl, Bruce and Dennis did remodeling for us in Mexico, and I remember Bruce had a dog.   The work was top drawer and Carl and I enjoyed seeing the Smarr cousins.

To my father, Sam E. Rees, Bruce Smarr was like a son. As a child, Bruce and his brothers rode their dirt bikes through our back lane, amusing my father greatly with their liveliness.  As Bruce grew up, he and my father shared a love of the outdoors and hunting.  In fact, Bruce had a deer blind in our woods for many years.  His property abutted on ours, but he promised my father that he would not sell or develop that neighboring property as long as my father lived, and he faithfully kept that promise. He did, though, have an opening in the fence where he could drive his four-wheeler through to his deer blind or just to visit with my father.  When I would come back to Missouri for a visit, Daddy often had a new story from Bruce to share. When Daddy died, we were honored to have Bruce as one of the pallbearers. My mom was. Joe Ann. She tells the story of Joann Daly staying all night with her.  Joann was sitting in the swing on the porch with Earl kissing. My grandpa opens the door in his skivvys and yells. JoeAnn get in her right now. My mom was in bed. Joann Daly quickly came in the house.

The Smarr and Creasy families have a long history of friendship. It started with Jo Ann and Judy and was shared by the kids as well from Jimmy to Andy and from Teddy to Jeff. I've known Bruce my whole life. I'll always remember Bruce's friendly smile and wave as he drove by our house, me on my tricycle and he in his truck. I became reacquainted with Bruce about 10 years ago in the cabinet business. It was a joy to work with Bruce. He always had a joke at the ready. He made me laugh everyday and he had a fantastic "old school" work ethic. He will be missed by many as he seemingly knew everyone in town.

We always enjoyed going to the Alabama concerts and talking to Bruce afterwards.  Always good to see a fellow Missourian - no matter what state they were playing.

So sad to hear of Bruce’s passing. Caroline and I were just talking about calling him and getting together—Just goes to show you should never put off reaching out to old friends. 

Rest in peace, dear Bruce. You had a life filled with adventures with the Bullet, Bellamys, and Alabama, and everywhere in between.  We will miss you. 

We travel tens of thousands of miles together for a couple of decades and saw every corner of America but his true love was the great American west and the outdoors. Although he suffered two kidney transplants he never complained during the long, long days at work and truly lived his life to the fullest experience.  He made us all better by example.  Rest in peace dear friend.

Bruce has been a friend since we were Kewpie’s long ago. Over the years we shared our stories of our outdoor experience. Bruce was big on waterfowl and the turkeys. Bruce always had great stories of his moments and of his friends he hunted with. Your family, friends and the outdoors will miss you.
