Born on December 10, 1936, in Troy, Kansas, Charles was the son of Carl and Mernie (Abel) Caine. He graduated from Berry High School in Rome Georgia and went on to live a life marked by faith, service, and deep devotion to family and community.
Charles proudly enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country with distinction until his honorable discharge in 1965. His time in the military shaped his values of discipline, humility, and service—principles he carried throughout his life.
It was at the B and G Roller Skating Rink that Charles met the love of his life, Jeanne Crosby. They married on April 1, 1956, in Waterproof, Louisiana, beginning a 69-year partnership filled with love, laughter, and shared purpose. Together, they raised five daughters: Candy, Caren, Cathy, Carla, and Casie.
Charles began his civilian career with the H.D. Lee Company in Kansas City before moving to Columbia, where he continued his computer career as Data Processing manager at Williams Keepers Accounting firm. In 1971 he went on to become a respected business owner and founder of Columbia EDP Center until his retirement. He was a man of integrity and vision, admired by colleagues and customers alike.
A devoted member of Memorial Baptist Church, Charles lived out his personal motto: “Not to be ministered unto, but to minister.” He gave generously his time and talents, serving in various church roles and engaging in meaningful community work. He also served on the Advisory Board of The Callaway Bank and was active in organizations such as SBUG and IPPA.
Charles found joy in many things: playing tennis, traveling the country by RV with Jeanne, motorcycle rides and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His greatest legacy was the love and values he instilled in his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jeanne Caine of Columbia; daughters: Candy Hamilton (Jeff) of Columbia, Caren Wickell (Jon) of Derby, Kansas, Cathy Young of Columbia, Carla Hurtado of Columbia, and Casie Rauer (Tosh) of St. Joseph, Missouri; ten grandchildren: Bryan Hamilton (Sarah), Ash Wickell, David Wickell, Ben Wickell (Cammie), Andrew Young (Ashley), Emily Reames (Matt), Justin Enyart, Jessica Enyart, Lex Rauer, and Lauren Rauer; and four great-grandchildren: Deleana Friend, Brennan Reames, Liliana Reames, and Stathum Enyart. He is also fondly remembered by extended family, and many dear friends.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Mernie Caine; his brother, George Caine; and two sisters, Evelyn Wykert and Hazel Johnson Chance.
Charles A. Caine will be remembered as a man of steadfast faith, gentle wisdom, and quiet strength. His life was a testament to service, compassion, and unwavering love. He leaves behind a legacy of grace and generosity that will continue to bless generations to come.
