Colby Tinsley, 59, of Columbia died February 23, 2023 at her home after battling cancer. Born Dec. 29,1963, in Tucson, Az., she was a lifelong resident of Boone County and a graduate of Hickman High School and Stephens College.
Colby’s life has always revolved around horses. As a child, Colby Dawson was directed and supported at horse shows by her mother, Patsy Jane Dawson and Sarah Thomas, both accomplished equestrians. She later competed successfully in upper-level hunter/jumper competitions. After college, Colby opened Walnut Slope Riding School, which is still in operation. For more than 30 years, she taught and nurtured children and adults in the sporting arts of horseback riding. She was a prominent member of the local equestrian community and a lifetime member of the Bridlespur Hunt.
Colby is survived by her husband of 39 years, Jack Tinsley, and loving friends. She was preceded in death by her mother and grandmother.
A memorial celebration will be held at a later date.
