Doug was born in St. Louis, Missouri on February 3, 1954 to David and Dolores Herleth, both of whom preceded him in death.
Doug graduated from Hazelwood High School and went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps from 1972 through 1975. He subsequently received his bachelor’s degree from Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State University).
Doug will be lovingly remembered by Sandy Hickey, his partner of more than 40 years; step-children Wendy Hickey, Amy (Brian) Hawkins, and Jerry (Carol) Hickey; grandchildren Payton (Libby) Lloyd; Braden, Brianna and Brenna Hawkins, and Kendall and Audrey Hickey.
He is also survived by his siblings Bob (Joyce), Bill (Teresa), Skip (Melissa), Sally (Eric), and Mike (Laura); and several nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Doug had a great love for Sandy, and they shared many wonderful memories. Doug also loved his grandkids and his dogs. Doug had a great compassion for those in need and routinely contributed to many charitable causes.
Doug also enjoyed watching and listening to Cardinals baseball and went to Spring Training and games when he could.
It was Doug’s wish to be cremated. A Memorial Service and interment will be held at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville on May 12, 2023.
