

Donald G. York, 64, formerly of Kansas City, Kansas died early Monday morning November 3, 2014 at his home after a battle with Cancer. Memorial Service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 10 at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W, Columbia, Missouri. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until time of service. Don was born on December 28, 1949 to the late Crafford “Dutch” and Esther York of Kansas City, Kansas. Don married Kathy Cope and they have lived in Kennesaw, Georgia for the past 7 years. Don worked in various aspects of the printing/ink industry most of his life. He was recruited to open the first ink plant in Hanoi, Vietnam in 2005. Don worked as a consultant and happily lived in Hanoi from 2005-2006 serving in this capacity. Don proudly served his country as a Marine by completing two tours of duty in the Vietnam War and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Don had many hobbies including ham radio Operation, photography, inventing, machinist, learning languages,(Vietnamese, Spanish, Portuguese, and Japanese.) His favorite pastime was piddling and he was well known for his skill at it!! He was such an incredible person!! We love and miss him so much. Don is survived by and will be greatly missed by his wife, Kathy, Kennesaw, Georgia; four sons, Jason York, Kansas City, Micah Spivey, Prairie Village, Ian York, Kansas City, and Vinny Freeman, North Carolina; daughter, Miki Callahan, Kansas City, Kansas; sister, Bunny Harris, Collins, Missouri; brother, Joe York, Pittsburgh, Kansas; and eight grandchildren.
