

Dorothy, age 94, died Monday at her home in Las Vegas with her devoted husband, Paul Karschnia, at her side, She was born in Columbia, MO on Nov 29, 1921 to Edna O Barnes Humfeld. and Lawrence Henry Humfeld. She attended Hickman High School graduating in 1938 where she was voted “most popular girl”, and was involved in many activities. She graduated from Christian College (now Columbia College) in 1942.
Dorothy married (William) Whitney Weir on August 9,1942. Whitney preceded her in death in 1984 as did her beloved grandson, Rhett Walters, in 1996. Dorothy resided in Columbia for most of her earlier years except for a few years in St Louis. She married Paul Karschnia, Retired Captain, USN on August 10, 1992. For more than 20 years they have lived in Las Vegas, NV.
Dorothy was active in King's Daughters in Columbia and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was involved with the Westside Newcomers group in Las Vegas. She loved entertaining and was known for her gracious hospitality and the delicious food she prepared. She had many friends, some dating back to her days in kindergarten. She enjoyed every person she met. They immediately felt as if they had found a friend.
She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Raul (Vicki) Walters, her two granddaughters, Stacy Walters Cobb and Wendy Walters, and her two great grandchildren, Zachary and McKenzie Cobb.
She will be buried at Memorial Park Cemetery, 1217 Business Loop 70 W in Columbia, next to her first husband, Whitney. The date and time are yet to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri, 2101 Vandiver Dr, Columbia, MO 65202.
