

Edward “Wayne” Calvin, 69, passed away February 11, 2015 at his home in Columbia, MO, after courageously battling pancreatic cancer for the past seven months. By his side was his former wife Sylvia and loving companion, Marjorie Audsley. He was born in Columbia, MO on July 7, 1945, the son of Violet (Jesse) and Walter Calvin, both of whom preceded him in death.
Wayne spent his entire life in Boone County Missouri, in and around Columbia and was an active member of Olivet Christian Church. Wayne was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, a member of the Columbia Elks Lodge #594 and a past member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Wayne spent many hours volunteering at various community events and for the VFW Post 280 in Columbia.
Wayne had many interests and hobbies including restoring and repairing Maytag gas engines, racing miniature remote cars, and later mini sprint cars. One of his first paying jobs was at OT Morton’s gas station. Among others places, he worked for Peabody Coal Co. and Good Trails Motorcycle Shop and was well-known to most of Columbia’s auto and engine repair shops. In 2007, he retired from Boone Hospital where he had served in Facilities-Maintenance department for many years.
His lawn mowing and small engine repair kept him busy after his retirement and he was known to Columbia’s auto dealers as a connoisseur of quality cars of the automotive and engine shops in town. He had a great passion for Harleys, Corvettes, and his pickup trucks, which were always shiny.
He had a gift for diagnosing and repairing almost anything with an internal combustion engine, and could often be found customizing his (and others) motorcycles, cars, lawn equipment and almost any other motorized vehicle.
He is survived by his companion and friend, Marjorie Audsley; his longtime friend and former spouse of 28 years, Sylvia Schieszer of Columbia; sister, Christina Sweatman of Ashland; nieces, Monica SueEllen Whitlatch of Hallsville; grandnephews, Bryce and Blake.; nephew, J.C. (Barb) Calvin, Columbia; grandniece, Rebekah Broadus, Columbia; great grandnephew Tyler and great grandniece, Mercedes.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, February 16, 2015 at Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM, Sunday, February 15 at the funeral home. Burial will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
