

Garland Ray Douglas (G.R) died on Sunday, November 14, 2021 in Columbia, Missouri at the age of 92. A visitation will be held Wednesday, November 17, 2021 from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm with funeral services at 3:00 pm, both at Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Garland was born on November 16, 1928 in Columbia, Missouri to Charles and Elsie (Turner) Douglas, the youngest of four children. He was a graduate of Hickman High School, Class of 1946. He started his farming career in Boone County. Later, he worked for Standard Oil, Boone County Coop., and finally retired from Boone County Works Department.
He was united in marriage to Lois Murray on August 9, 1947 and together they had four children: Denny, Phyllis, Janice, and Connie. Lois and Garland enjoyed many years together surrounded by their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Garland loved summers at the Lake of the Ozarks, fishing, growing some of the best tasting tomatoes, and tinkering on old cars. In his later years, he lived at the Terrace Retirement Center where you could find him sitting in his 4-wheel scooter voluntarily blowing leaves, cutting down weeds, and removing brush. Other times, you could find him smoking cigars in the gazebo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois Douglas; brothers, Edwin Douglas, John Douglas, and Lloyd Douglas; and daughters, Connie Douglas and Janice Johnson.
Garland is survived by son, Denny Douglas (Dodie); daughter, Phyllis Smith (Mike); grandchildren, Jason Brown (Stacey), Zeb Smith, and Abe Smith (Stephanie); and great-grandchildren, Jaden Brown, Kylie Smith, Devin Brown, and Harry Smith.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital, 4400 Clayton Ave., St. Louis, MO 63110.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Boone Health. They would especially like to thank the wonderful staff at the Terrace Retirement Center.
