My mom and I had a special bond that only God could separate. 
Even after death we are still close and I use to always say to her
that no one could ever replace her. We shared unconditional love 
for one another and I will never fully say goodbye. Until the day
that I see you again, you will live in my heart.
I miss you so so much, you were my best friend. May the Lord keep 
you safe and the angels comfort you. I love you mom with all my heart
and soul.

You sure were one special lady.  I feel so very blessed to be a part of this family.  I will always cherish spending time with you, laughing with you, holding your soft hands trying to comfort you as grandfather was being laid to rest back in Guyana, watching Imani pull at your fluffy sock covered feet and worrying she was going to pull you right off the chair, laying with you after Imani passed and listening to your comforting words reminiscing about the loss of one of your own children, asking me, "was there a sign?".  If only I was able to understand your accent more so I could have joked and talked with you more thru the years.  But I will always cherish the time we did have together.  You will be so very missed.  Rest in peace, we know you're watching over all of us.  Give Imani a big hug.  I'm so happy (and a little jealous) you get to be with her.

I am very sad that you are gone mom and I wish with all my heart that I could have made it for the services.  It is with a heavy heart that I must say I love you in these written words rather than into your ears now.  You were always there for us when we were growing up and I know that you loved us with all your heart.  I am sad that you are gone but know that you are now at peace and are one again with the old man and have no more pain.  I love you mom and will think of you everyday.

Granny I will miss you very much, I will always remember your crooked little smile and the way you would laugh.  I will cherish all the stories you told me and all the times you would ask me for phone cards in your own special way towards me.  I am sad you are gone but glad you are in no more pain.  I know that you and Imani are up in heaven with grandfather laughing and watching over all of us along with my father's mother.  You were always here for all of us and cared for everyone your whole life. You were truly a special woman to have seen and given so much to help us through our journey in life.  Without you I would not be here or able to say these words words about you.  You blessed me with a loving mother who has cared for me and my siblings as you did for your children.  I will miss you grandma and some day I will see you again but for now I just want to tell you I love you and think about you fondly.

My world changed when you died. I always thought that I would be able to spend more time with you. There are many things on my list that I had planned to do with you but I always thought we would do them some day. I did not expect our conversation a few weeks ago would be the last time I would hear your voice. I will forever be thankful that I made that call and that we both ended the conversation with I love you. Mom, I will miss you but I know that now you are no longer in pain, and that you are with Dad. May God grant you the peace you so richly deserve, and I look forward to seeing you again when my time here on earth is over. Rest in peace Mommy.

I never thought you were going to die before I got to Missouri. However, I am glad we had lots of phone conversations through the years, and I always looked forward to talking with you.  I just wish I could have given you one last hug and told you how much I loved you. I could say this a million times but it would not be enough. If love could have saved you, you would still be here today. No one else can ever take your place and it broke my heart to lose you but you did not go alone, part of me went with you the day God took you from us. I know you are with Dad, please give him a hug for me, and may you both rest in peace.

My dear mother, I already miss you so much. It is very hard to know that you are not here with us anymore. It makes me feel sad and alone especially in the day time. At night, I keep waking up thinking you are in the other room, and I can hear you calling for me, Zena, Zena and I would be there as quick as I could. My husband would always say to me, take your time or you will fall. I would watch you smile when you saw me standing at the door. You always wanted to talk about things you were worried about. To keep you from staying up all night I would quickly say Mommy, don't worry about all of that, everything has been taken care of. She would then smile and say, Really? and finally she would go back to sleep. The roughest nights were when her legs were bothering her, many nights she was unable to sleep due to her restless leg syndrome. She would cry and say What have I done in my life to punish like this? It was on these nights that it was very hard to watch her struggle and be in pain and know that I couldn't do anything to help her. I would always tell her not to worry because I would always be there to take care of her. She would say to me, leave me and take care of David, he is like a son to me, I am glad you married him. There were many times that she would say that she is such a burden to me and I would have to convince her that she was not, and should not worry because it is my turn to take care of her just like she took care of me when I was little. The last few weeks I really felt helpless. Every time you were sick in the past I felt that I could make you better, but this time I knew you were going to pass away. Knowing this was the hardest part for me, to know that I could not make you better. Thank God I had Richard and Crystal who could handle taking care of you at the end. All I could do was to be there when the time came. I know a mother's love is unconditional, and she will always know how you feel inside. On the day my mother left, she took a part of me with her. She had always been there for me, and I know she loved me until the end. So with all my heart and soul, I want you to know that I will always love you too.  A mother's love is irreplaceable, which makes losing you an incredibly painful experience. I will always remember all the wonderful times we had together. Although it may be hard, we all must understand that God called you to his heavenly home.  Heaven is promised to all of us who believe in god. I love you Mom, rest in peace, I know I will see you again.

Mom, I never believed you were going to die so quickly. I wish I had stayed one more day just to see your face one more time. I loved you very much and I know you loved me with all your heart. In this life, we sometimes take things for granted and assume that we will have a lot more time to spend with our parents than we really do.  However, I would like to thank you for being such a great mother and for loving me unconditionally even when I did things that upset you. Thank you for being an anchor in my life and always being there for me when I needed you. I will miss you but I will take solace that you are no longer in pain. So rest in peace, and I look forward to seeing you again.

I first met my mother-in-law, Gloria DeSilva, 46 years ago when I visited her and her husband's farm. Since then, I have watched her take care of her family with love and firmness. It is not easy as a farmer's wife to raise 10 children and also help your spouse in developing a productive farm. My mother-in-law never complained and did whatever was necessary to help her husband provide for their family. Her ambition in life was to be a good wife and mother. In looking back over the last 46 years, I can truly say that she accomplished her life's ambition. For the last seven years that my mother-in-law lived with my wife and me, I watched her interact lovingly with her grandchildren giving advice and scolding them when necessary, and it was all done in a very loving way.  My wife is one of the finest women I know, and I firmly believe that my mother-in-law had a major role in making her the women she is today. Therefore, as I say goodbye to my mother-in-law, I would like her to know that she did an outstanding job in being a good wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Goodbye Mom (Gloria), and May God grant you the peace you so richly deserve.

My grandmother was a loving,caring and amazing wonman, she took care of me since i was 6 months old. I grew up knowing her as my mother, i miss her so much. I remember when i was little she used to take me all over with her, she was always there for me no matter what. I miss everything about her, words cannot explain. The day she left us, she took a part of me that can't be replace. I'll always love her, she was my everything. May her  soul rest in peace.

Hi Grandma, I lost track of time  starring at this blank screen not knowing what to say to you. Saying goodbye in writing makes the feeling of you being gone much too real, and I'm not yet ready to face that reality. I have never imagined a life without you being present, so I took many moments with you for granted, thinking that you will always be around. 
I just want you to know how much you're loved and missed by everyone, your absence has been extremely painful.I hope that where ever you are that you're happy and will somehow keep guiding us you like you always have when you were here( God knows we needed it). I could never thank you enough for all that you have done for me, you and grandpa were more like my parents than my grandparents, and for that I will forever be grateful 
Goodbye for now grandma, please tell grandpa I still miss him, and know that I love you both with all my heart.

For most of my life I knew of you more than I actually knew you. You seemed to be this grand figure that only existed in stories. When you moved to Missouri in your final years, I realized the grand figure existed in real life too. You were wicked and funny and a huge gossip, which are my three favorite things! 

I wish we had more time together. I wish I answered more of your calls. I wish I brought you more strawberry milkshakes. But I'm so grateful for the time we did have. I loved you and still do.

You're like a dream, where you don't remember everything that happened but you remember how it made you feel. You made me feel happy. I miss you so much already.

Mama when I first met you I was shy and afraid, after all I was dating your only unmarried son. Well that first time turned into many years of being among the family.   Both you and Mr. Desilva welcomed me into your home.  In the beginning we had had our ups and downs but you truly didn't hold that against me. Over the years we grew closer. I loved listening to all your great current and past stories. No one told it "as sweet' as you did...and boy you never forgot the smallest detail.  When you came to live in Columbia we used to talk even more.Your biggest concern was when you would see me.I know that you would have loved seeing me more often but I'm sure you understood. I remembered     visiting but would stop and chat a little with the family... then I'll hear you from your room saying.  "where is she, she needs to come in here" Such a feisty little lady.But with a heart full of love   for  others. Thank you for accepting me as part of your family; you will forever have a special place in my heart. Now you are with Mr. Desilva together forever; another  beautiful angel with all my other dear departed angels. May your soul find everlasting peace until me meet again mama. Love you forever.

My mother and I were very close ever since I was a young child. Even when I moved away to the states I would visit her yearly. When my life became a bit busier and I was unable to visit every year, I still called her all the time and visited her in Guyana when I could. Every time she would come to visit she would spend time at my house and we would watch soaps and I can remember one time she watched me plant my garden. It was nice to be able to do these things with my mom.  When she moved to Columbia, Missouri, I had already moved to Virginia but I visited her at least twice a year (summers, Christmas, and sometimes in between) and always spoke to her on the phone each day. I think that will be one of the hardest things to get use to, not having my rock, my best friend to talk to everyday. Living away from my family has been hard but being able to hear her voice, listen to her stories and talk about life with my mom made it so much easier.  I thank her for always being there for me, to guide me, and let me talk about my days with her.  Each day we spoke to each other was filled with stories of her as a young girl, talks about the soap operas by always reminding me to watch young and the restless and bold and the beautiful, and very juicy gossip about the soaps and family dramas. We would laugh and cry and plan about the future and all the things we would do together, which we would do when I come to visit her. She would count down the days to when we would see each other. She never could wait to see me. Every time I came I would spend all my time with my mom because she was so close to me and I to her. She was my mom and my best friend. We would sit and talk about the outside-life from outside her windowshe was very observant.She loved to look outside at my sister's garden with the birds and the trees. She loved going shopping and getting  purses and beautiful Jewelry. Jewelry was her hobby.She also really loved hats and I would often bring her new hats. I miss her so much. It will be very hard for me not to hear her voice every day, but I know she is in a better place. Her memories and teachings will always live on in my heart and I aspire to be as good as a mother as she was. I know she is happy in heaven with my dad and I will always love her so much with all my heart. I will never forget her. Every time I close my eyes I will see her loving smile and know that she is here with me. I have so many good memories with my mom. Rest in peace my loving, beautiful mom. I will love you until the day I die when we meet again.

Caring for Granny was not an easy task and it became harder over the years, which is why I will always see my mother Zena as one of the strongest and best women I know. Without her, my beloved Granny may have passed many years before, and I would not have had the last 15 years of memories and stories to share with my future children. I know my children would have had all of her love and attention because the only thing my Granny ever wanted from me was to have a baby. She would stubbornly but hilariously hound me about when I was going to have one. (Will continue 2nd post)

I know my children would have had all of her love and attention because the only thing my Granny ever wanted from me was to have a baby. She would stubbornly but hilariously hound me about when I was going to have one. I know that when I do have a baby she is going to be on my mind from the day I find out that I am pregnant to the day I go into labor. Most of the family did not get to know the loving, sweet, painfully honest Granny like I did and it is truly their loss. She was the most interesting person I have ever known. I will also never forget the best month I spent with Granny. When Jeff and I married in 2014, my parents left shortly after and Granny spent the month with us in Kansas City, hilarity ensued. She got very techy that month owing to the fact that we did not have a house phone, she became all about the cell phone and Skype. We set up her room almost identically to her room in Columbia and she would still find fault. She would have breakfast and lunch with me, watching as I flitted around the apartment getting everything ready for Jeff and her for the evening. When Jeff came home we would have dinner together, and she would con him into rubbing her legs and wrapping them up, she truly loved him. We had great times watching soap operas, and Fizz (my dog) enjoyed watching the traffic outside from the balcony with her. I think it reminded her of Guyana and watching the boats pass, she wanted to be out there every day. The last day she stayed with me was one of the hardest days of my life. My niece Imani passed away. I did not want to upset Granny but she knew something was not right. When I told her she got very still and quiet and told me she was so sorry, it wasn't fair. She consoled me and our bond grew even stronger. She spoke of how painful it is to lose a child, due to the fact that she had lost a son of her own. On that day, she was not only my Grandmother, she was my friend. I will always miss my sweet Granny and her snide remarks about everything. She was the center of the family and now she is gone but she will never be forgotten. Hopefully she will look over me, my husband, and our future children just like we did for her, to her last day.

Thinking about Grandma doesn't make me sad; instead it makes me smile to know that she is in a better place, out of pain, and with her loved ones that have also passed. I smile because we have made some great memories together that will never be forgotten in my heart. 

Throughout my life my grandma lived in Guyana so I was unable to see her frequently. When she moved to Missouri I had already moved away, however, I was blessed to move back and be able to spend her last weeks with her. In that time I learned how strong Grandma was. She fought through so many complications and even when she was in the most pain she still wanted to keep the spirits up by telling stories and making the people she loved laugh. I think that is my favorite thing about my Grandma...the way she loved to make people laugh. She would tell the most outrageous of stories and gossip. Grandma was never afraid to tell anyone what she truly felt. I remember one day when I took her some of her favorite foods she told me some real good gossip that would forever stay between her and me. I will never forget the moments we shared together like looking through her vast amount of jewelry and her picking out a baggie of jewels for me. When I visited her in Guyana I was very young and I didn't know how to pick crabs so she took care of me and picked the meat out for me.  I can still remember that and us playing cards when all the adults had left to go to town. She was a good wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family dearly.

Although it pains me that she is gone, her memory will forever bring me happiness. I will never forget her and will always have a place for her in my heart.

There are so many things I want to say about my mom, but I can not express them into words at this moment.  I miss hearing her voice, I miss the scent of her, I miss her touch, and I miss her funny stories from back when she was a young girl.
I miss our daily conversations on the phone, especially before she would go to bed. One of the best times we had together was when we use to go fishing at my dad's farm, and we would fish at night time.  She would be telling hilarious jokes and entertaining everyone all night long as we fished for Hassa in the savannah. I am going to miss her advice and her insight into my life.  Losing her took a part of me that will never be replaced and I will miss her everyday. I loved her crookish smile and laugh that made me laugh harder than anyone ever will. She was an amazing mother no one can ever take her place.  She will live on in my heart forever. I know she is up in heaven looking down on me and watching my every step until we meet again. Love you Mommy always!

We have come to pay homage to a sister whose ancestors help to build the Pomeroon River district.After it was abandon by the Dutch in the 1880's,the Fernandes ,De Silva and Alphonso,s are historical families all of whom were prominent Catholics,they help to build four churches and five schools and above all made a success in agriculture production to feed the Guyanese nation.This of the Fernandes family were good community workers and raised a family with her late husband Everest De Silva all of who became pioneer in the field in Gold mining,boat building,fishing,transport and farming.Having learnt from their ancestors who came to Guyana in 1835,they  promoted their culture in swine,honey,and cattle not excluding Meridian fine recipes,garlic pork and cross buns.
One interesting art done by the family were reverse painting on glass with images of Jesus Christ,flowers,birds,and scenes of the Pomeroon.
The history of Pomeroon River will be incomplete with out the mentioning of the contribution of the De Silva family.This sister have a family all of whom are dedicated citizens in which destiny has ordained to keep the well being of their tradition  foremost in their minds.

I am filled with so much sadness. She was a wonderful soul. She was the sister of my beloved grandmother, Dolores Alphonso.
Over the last few months she would call every single day, sometimes 2-3 times a day if not more.
They would chat about growing up, the weather, tv shows and so much more. Sometimes I would even hear some sweet sweet laughter. 
If a day went by and Aunty Gloria didn't call, my grandmother knew something was wrong. 
We would miss her calls and her sweet voice. 
To the children, grand children, great grand children and other relatives of Aunty Gloria, my condolences.
May her beautiful soul rest in peace.
