John Barnes Jr.

John T. Barnes, 91, a long time Columbia, Missouri resident, passed away Monday, August 25, 2014 in Wichita, Kansas. He was born in Hallsville, Missouri, on September 14, 1922 to the late John T. and Virginia Stone Barnes. On January 16, 1943 he married Mae Doty, in Little Rock, Arkansas and she preceded him in death. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 p.m. on Monday, September 1, 2014 at Memorial Funeral Home in Columbia. Funeral Service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 also at Memorial Funeral Home. Burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. John served in the US Army in France in WWII and graduated with the help of the GI Bill from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor's in Agriculture. He spent his working career with the Missouri Farmers Association (MFA) and Shelter Insurance Company He is survived by John T. “Jay” Barnes III (Shirley) of Wichita, Kansas and Robert Gene “Bob” Barnes (Susan) of Fair Grove, Missouri; two grandchildren, Jason Lee Barnes (Rachel) of Springfield, Missouri and Shanyn Mae Barton of Fair Grove, Missouri; and two great-grandchildren, Kaleb and Kaylin Barton of Fair Grove, Missouri. John was also preceded in death by his brothers and sisters.
