Bill and I send our deepest sympathy to all of you. Over the years, Dave and Kate and our grandchildren spoke so lovingly and highly of "Mr. Garrison". I wish we had had the chance to know him. He was obviously a very special human being. Love and comfort to all of you.

Dear dear Garrisons - I just stumbled on this sad news through Facebook just now.  My heart is aching.  What a wonderful wonderful man John has been.  Oh the memories this brings up.  I pray Gods comfort for you all and we can all be assured we will meet again.  I think of the reunion he is having with my precious Mom and Dad.  Just picture it! Larry, Terry and I send our very deepest sympathies and I am so sorry I didn't know in time to be at the service.  My family has always loved yours.  Linda Stidham Dolliver

He was good man. I knew him from the time I was a small child growing up at Calvary Baptist church. Once in he told me in a very humble way about his service in Europe. He was in the Battle of the Bulge and told me about picking up frozen bodies in the snow after the battle. These greatest generation men carried these memories all their life. He and dad were good friends, partly because of their faith in God, and partly because of their love of the outdoors and their experiences in Europe in World War II. He took us boys from church fishing in our group called Royal Ambassadors. He came to both my dad's visitation and memorial service. Rest in peace John Garrison.

I'm sharing sadness with the Garrison sisters and Dorothy today. Always looked up to Mr. Garrison, who was a towering figure beyond his impressive size and strength. I grew up with no dad in the house, but that house was three houses down from the Garrisons, and John was the standard reference point for what it would be like to have a dad present in the home. Heck of a man with a wonderful family. They were the best of friends to my sister and I. Love you Carolyn, Elizabeth and Doris Ann (sorry, Doris!). Best to Ms. Dorothy.

I was blessed with Austin in my life for almost 60 years.  As I grew up I knew them as "Jack and Austin." I don't recall how old I was before I knew "Jack," a nickname from childhood, was my aunt Dorothy. The first thing that comes to mind when I think of Austin is my Grandpa Allen. Family was first and foremost to both of them. There aren't enough adjectives to describe my uncle Austin. He was a phenomenal person. Unfortunately I will not be able to pay my respects in person to my aunt Dorothy, cousins Doris Ann, Liz and Carolyn and their families. As they probably already know everytime I talked to Austin, after asking about my parents and brother's family, he always proudly told me about his "girls" and their families. I was born into a family of 16 aunts and uncles and eventually 30-40 first cousins. As life would have it, and because it bears repeating, I was blessed that Austin touched my life for almost 60 years. Holding my aunt Dorothy and Austin's "girls" and their families in my heart, Debbi Allen.

My thoughts are with the "Garrison girls". I'm sure I met Mr Garrison at some point in my teen years, but my "memories" of him are through my sister, Myndi, a friend of Carolyn. Myndi loved him dearly and thought the world of him. My other "memories" of him are through my husband, Dan Jacobs, who grew up in the same neighborhood as the Garrisons. Dan described him as the "big man in the neighborhood" with his broad shoulders and fatherly demeanor. He will clearly be missed, but what an awesome man to remember.
