Maurice Miera, 66, of Columbia, MO passed away Friday, July 20, 218 at his home. Memorial service will be 2pm, Tuesday, September 11, 2018 in MO State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO with full military honors.
Maurice was born February 21, 1952 in Van Nuys, California to Leopoldo and Veronica Merelez Miera. He served in the US Navy in Field Medical Service, and in the Naval reserves after his discharge from active duty. In all, he served just under 8 years, 2 years of active duty and 6 in the reserves. He worked at the Harry S. Truman VA Hospital in Columbia for over 20 years.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Miera of Columbia; a daughter, Sarah Miera of Columbia; stepson, Garrett Thompson of Lincoln, NE; sister Mary Frances (Frank) Juarez of Dana Point, CA; nephew, Jason Juarez; sisters-in-law, Peggy Shaffer and Suzanne Smith, and mother-in-law, Jean Shaffer. His parents and a stepdaughter, Jessica Thompson, preceded him in death.
