Mona Lee Keaster

Mona was a 1949 graduate of Morehouse High School in the Bootheel and graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau in 1953 with majors in Business Education and English. On June 3, 1956, Mona was married to Armon Joseph Keaster, son of John and Nora Keaster of Risco, MO at Matthews, MO Methodist Church and was married for 64 years. Mona and Armon celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at Dexter, MO in 2001.

Survivors include two sons, Scott (works for the City of Columbia as City Channel Video Engineer, Public Communications) and Aaron (bassist in Toledo, OH Symphony Orchestra) daughter-in-law, Michelle (Doyle) Keaster (teaches music in a Monclova Christian Academy) and granddaughter, Kaelee Ann Keaster, who attends that church school. Also surviving is a nephew, Douglas Scott of Sikeston and a niece, Darla Scott of Jackson. Mona was preceded in death by her parents and brother, C. G. Scott, Jr.

Mona taught business education courses for 10 years, (5 of them at Hickman High School in Columbia, 1957-1962). After her two sons entered school, she returned to work in the secretarial field at the University of Missouri for 15 years where she enjoyed providing secretarial assistance to scientists in several Agricultural Research Service offices. Following her retirement, she volunteered with the Central Missouri Food Bank and the Alzheimer’s Association for several years providing secretarial assistance, etc.

In 2018 Mona was honored for having served 50 years in Chapter KA of P.E.O. (an international philanthropic educational organization) where she held many offices and assisted with planning and carrying out the many philanthropic activities of the chapter.

A visitation will be held on Monday, March 15, 2021 at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W, Columbia, MO 65202 from 11:30 am till time of funeral service at 12:00 pm. Burial at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO will follow at 2:00 pm.
