

Ruth Starman, of Columbia, Mo., died of natural causes on July 27,2014 at Bluff Creek Terrace. She was 90 years old. Ruth was born September 2, 1923 in London, England and grew up in Rochester, N.Y. She graduated Allegheny College in Pennsylvania and went on to graduate from Boston School of Occupational Therapy. She worked as an OT at many different venues and her creative side helped develop some very unique therapies. She married Lawrence Starman in 1947 and together they had three sons: John, David and Charles. Ruth enjoyed sailing, boating, swimming and anything by the water. She also loved her art work and was always creating a new project to challenge her mind and abilities. Some of her art work can be seen in and around Columbia. Ruth enjoyed watching Mizzou sports and Cardinal baseball. She volunteered for many years at M.U. Health Center and Mizzou football and basketball games. Ruth’s patience, creativity, love and understanding will be truly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by: sons John (Cindy), Dave (Jeanne), and Charlie (Terri); brother, David Fenn (Betty); grandchildren: Jelena Peterson (Brett), Jarred Starman (special friend Tonya Hines), Amanda Jillson (Cal), Abigail Starman (special friend Matt Lamkey), Cooper Starman; two step grandchildren: Kyle White and Ryan White (Catherine); 6 great grandchildren, 3 step great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Saturday August 2, 2014 at Memorial Funeral Home (1217 Business Loop 70, Columbia, Mo. 65203) at 1:00 PM with services to follow at 2:00 PM. Contributions can be made to the Columbia Area Senior Center.
