Tom grew up in South Greenfield and proudly graduated from the Greenfield High School Class of 1970.
On November 21, 1984, he married the love of his life, Carol (Hinderberger) Hughey, in Columbia, Missouri. Together they created a beautiful, blended family and were blessed with five children: Rhonda, Chanda, Raven, Ryan, and Ron.
Tom dedicated much of his working life to the automotive industry. He spent 27 years as a car salesman at Joe Machens Ford in Columbia and also worked at Head Motor Company and Rick Ball Auto Mall over the years. He was known for his strong work ethic, friendly nature, and ability to connect with people.
A faithful member of First Christian Church in Columbia, Tom lived a life centered on kindness and service. He loved cars, country music, and dancing with his wife. He was a collector at heart and rarely sat still. Tom found joy in helping others—whether it was giving someone a ride, sharing a meal, or simply being there when someone needed him. Above all, he deeply loved his family, especially those who knew him best as “Grandpa.”
Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Carol, of their home in Columbia; his children, Rhonda Osbon of Dawn, Missouri; Chanda Duncan and her husband Richie of Columbia; Raven Beckermann and her husband Mike of Arnold; Ryan Hughey and his wife Emily of Columbia; and Ron Sheppard and his wife Stacey of Boonville. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren: Elizabeth, Paige, Amanda, Alistair, Ambrielle, Jackson, Cash, Ryder, Greer, Victoria, Kyle, Justin, Ronnie, and Gabe; and 9 great-grandchildren: Mikah, Elyjah, Brentlee, Caroline, Lylith, Brooklynn, London, Salem, and Quincy; his sister, Judy Wright of Roman, Montana; his brother, Robert Hughey and his wife Jeanie of Everton, Missouri; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Douglas Wright.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Tom’s honor to First Christian Church of Columbia.
