Valerie Marie Reiske, born November 5, 1934, age 84, of Columbia, MO passed away at home on Saturday, January 12, 2019. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dominick Leon and Minnie Leon of Marseilles, IL. She is survived by her husband, Jack Reiske of Columbia, MO; Children, Mark (Sue) Reiske of Lawrence, KS, Matthew (Renette) Reiske of Columbia, MO; Brother, Larry Leon; Grandchildren, Nichole Reiske of Lawrence, KS, Henry (Laura) Reiske of Homer, AK, Isabeau (Zachary) Roberts of Columbia, MO, Dominick Reiske of Kansas City, MO, Jordan Reiske of Frisco, TX; Great-grandchild, Loren Reiske of Lawrence, KS.
A graduate of Northern Illinois University, she taught kindergarten in Woodstock, IL before her marriage. A member of Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority, she was an avid quilter, knitter, cross stitcher and cook. While living in Kirksville, MO, she was a member of the College Dames at Truman State University. On moving to Columbia, MO she joined the University of Missouri Fortnightly Club. She was a member of the Mary Immaculate parish in Kirksville, MO and Our Lady of Lourdes parish in Columbia, MO, devoting many hours to parish activities.
Visitation and funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Visitation is at 9:00 AM, mass at 10:00 AM, followed by graveside services at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family invites those attending to join them for lunch following the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Our Lady of Lourdes Interparish School, The Foodbank for Central and Northeast Missouri, Habitat for Humanity, or Central Missouri Humane Society are suggested.
