Carl “Ben” McCain, a lifelong resident of Sandy Hook, Mississippi, passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at the age of 80. He worked in home construction all of his career and was known for his woodworking talents. Ben was an avid sports fan and supporter of Ole Miss athletics. Although he enjoyed all sports, he was especially passionate about softball and coached the “White Lightning” softball team for many years. Ben was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who deeply loved his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Martha McCain; a sister, Patricia Ann McCain; two daughters, Andrea Romeis and Sherri Goings; a grandson, Alan Goings; and a great-granddaughter, Priscilla Carpenter. Ben is survived by his wife, Sue McCain; a daughter, Carla McCain; a son Brett McCain (John Bearden); a sister, Brenda Martin; two brothers, Charles Edward McCain (Norma Jean), and Jim McCain; seven grandchildren, Corey McCain (Paige), Joshua Stafford (Brandie), Jordan Stafford (Ashley Fox), Jonathan Stafford, Nina Carpenter (Clint), Laken Goings, and Alyssa Causby (Kevin); and 12 great-grandchildren.
There will be a visitation for Ben at Colonial Funeral Home on Friday, January 21, 2022 from 12:00pm until 2:00pm. The funeral service will follow at 2:00pm in the funeral home chapel. Ben will be laid to rest in Carson Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
