Donald Thenton Hatton, of Gretna, Louisiana, passed away on Monday, May 29, 2023 at the age of 91. He was born in Marion County, Mississippi to Ottis and Iris Hatton and attended high school in Inverness, Mississippi. Donald served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. After his discharge from the Navy, he attended engineering school at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. His engineering credentials gained him employment with the Army Corps of Engineers working on Mississippi River projects. Donald has worked for several oil companies and ended his career on water serving as the head engineer on the ferry running between New Orleans and Algiers. He enjoyed restoring old cars and taking any kind of mechanical device apart to see how it worked. Donald will be remembered as a quiet, reserved man who was loyal and devoted to his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Sylvia Iris Moore, Betty Louise Giardina McNease, and Brenda Gail Montomery; and a brother, Robert Edward Hatton. Donald is survived by his wife, Pamela Blackburn Hatton; a sister, Alice Jane Kean and her husband, David; a brother, James Bennett Hatton and his wife, Karen; two nieces, Laurie Moore and Lisa Freeze and her husband, Terry; two nephews, Michael Moore and his wife, Joan and Bill Giardina and his wife, Tammy; and several great nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation for Donald at Colonial Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 from 11:00am until 12:00pm. The funeral service, officiated by Reverend Darel Daniels, will be at the graveside in the Wilks Family Cemetery in Bassfield at 12:30pm.
