Donis Bracey, of the Darbun community, passed from this life into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at the age of 88, while holding the hand of her lifetime love, Bobby Joe Bracey. On January 8th, they celebrated 69 years of marriage.
She was a faithful member of Woodlawn Church in Columbia and a woman of deep and abiding faith. She was the perfect homemaker and dearly adored her family. She raised her children to know and love the Lord. Donis had a servant’s heart and found great joy in caring for her family. She was an excellent cook who delighted in preparing meals for those she loved. Reading her Bible was her passion, and she will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her love for God, and her devotion to her family.
She was preceded in death by her precious great-grandson, Travis Anthony; her parents, Sedgie and Pearlie Breeden; four sisters; and two brothers.
Donis is survived by her husband, Bobby Joe Bracey; three daughters, Teresa Starling, Tanya Thornhill (Tal), and Dawn Carter (Bobby); and one son, Joe Bracey (Wendy). She is also survived by her grandchildren, K.W. Anthony (Kimberly), Jace Anthony, Jessica Monroe (Scott), Prent Carter, and Kelsey Carter; six great-grandchildren, Lainey Grace, Karter Wade, Knox, Triston, Conner, and Colston; one sister, Dorothy Istre of Erath, Louisiana; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Donis Bracey will be held at Colonial Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, with visitation from 11:00 until 2:00, followed by the homegoing service at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel. The service will be officiated by Reverend Jerron Carney and Reverend Stephen Binion.
She will be laid to rest at Rowley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dewayne Hamilton, Lane Powell, Randy Bracey, Prent Carter, KW Anthony, and Triston Anthony.
