George E. "Sonny" Darr Sr.

George E. “Sonny” Darr, Sr. age 82 of Columbia, MS passed away Monday, December 13, 2021 at Meritt Health Wesley in Hattiesburg, MS. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corp and worked in the oil field for more than 30 years. Sonny attended Cedar Grove Baptist Church and will be missed by all who knew him.

Mr. Darr was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Lynn Darr; the mother of his children, Dorothy Pittman; parents, Allen Lewis Darr and Lucy Ann Rankin Darr; sisters, Patsy Taylor, and Barbara Darr; and a brother, Charles “Buddy” Darr. Survivors include his wife, Minnie Mae Darr of Tylertown, MS; a daughter, Melissa Ann Stoetzner (Bobby) of Columbia; two sons, George Darr, Jr. (Cindy) of Columbia, and Michael Darr of Astoria, NY; five sisters, Mary Allen Darr, Joe Ann Franklin, Pansy Peavy (Shelton), and Linda Taylor, all of Columbia, and Betty Stringer of Foxworth, MS; two brothers, John Darr (Kiok) of Columbus, GA, and Donald Darr of Rockmart, GA; six grandchildren, Josha Darr, Devin Boyd, Tiffany Ray, Jared Ray, Isaac Stoetzner, and Erin Stoetzner; seven great-grandchildren; four step-children, Melody Rushing, Tammy Broussard, Dee Dee Thomas, and Rusty Roberts; a host of nieces, and nephews; and numerous step-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday December 16, 2021 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Colonial Funeral Home in Columbia. The funeral service will be conducted on Friday, December 17, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home where friends may visit from 9:00 AM until service time. Reverend Tommy Broome and Reverend Skeeter Vasilion will officiate. Special music will be provided by Mike Bennett and burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery assisted by Bobby Stoetzner, Isaac Stoetzner, Jared Ray, Joshua Darr, Chris Boyd, and Zachary Popwell as pallbearers.
