On Tuesday, October 7, 2025, while surrounded by her loving family, Hazel Phillips, of Melville, Louisiana, peacefully passed from this life into God’s presence at the age of 85. She was born in Opelousas, Louisiana to Sidney and Ida Lalonde. With her marriage to Reverend Charles Phillips, Hazel began her life of providing encouragement and support to her husband as they traveled the country ministering and evangelizing. In 1978 they were lead to the Darbun Community in Mississippi where her husband pastored the Pine Grove Pentecostal Church for eleven years. She returned to Marion County three years ago to be cared for by her daughter, Bridgette, and once again called Pine Grove her church home. Hazel was a woman of deep faith who loved her Lord and loved her family. She will be remembered for her humble, loving, caring, and quite nature.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Grace DeVillier; a brother, Lee Lalonde; her grandmother who raised her, Adelaide Lalonde; a son-in-law, Darrell Bracey; a son, Brian Phillips; and her beloved husband, Charles Phillips. Hazel is survived by two daughters, Bridgette Bracey and Vicky Caldwell (Troy); a daughter-in-law, Rhonda Holmes (David); three grandchildren, Derek Bracey (Ashley), Tyler Phillips (Chelsea), and Brittney Morgan (Austin); eight great-grandchildren, Beau Bracey, Kortlyn Bracey, Hazel Phillips, Phoebe Phillips, Pierce Morgan, Carson Morgan, Evie Morgan, and Ellis Morgan; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
The funeral service will be at First Pentecostal Church of Melville, Louisiana on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 1:00pm. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00am until service time. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
