

Joseph C. Conner, Jr., 91, passed away at Regency Hospital in Jackson, MS on Tuesday, February 19, 2013. Funeral services will be held at Colonial Funeral Home on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow the services in the Columbia City Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, February 22, 2013 beginning at 5:30 p.m. Rev. Larry K. Lott will officiate the service. Joe grew up in Columbia, where he graduated from Columbia High School in 1940. After high school, he served as a Corporal in the 310th Ferrying Squadron of the U.S. Air Force from July, 1942 to December, 1945. While serving his country in Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe, he was awarded the ATO, EAMETO, Good Conduct, and World War II Victory medals. Joe attended Mississippi College, where he graduated in 1947. He lived and worked in Houston, Texas where he retired as a Seismologist for Geo-Source, Inc. in the oil industry. He spent most of his retirement living back in Columbia and was a member of Columbia Church of Christ. The last two years he lived in Madison, MS. He is preceded in death by his wife Mrs. Jimmie Dean Essary Conner, parents Dr. Joseph C. Conner, Sr. and Juanita Simmons Conner, sister Lorraine Conner and brother Marcus William "Billy" Conner. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Helen Taylor of Silas, AL, nephews Alan Conner of Atlanta, GA and Keith Conner of Norcross, GA, cousin, Patricia Stewart of Columbia, adopted daughter Cheryl Holt of Oklahoma City, OK and daughters-in-kind (cousins) Jennifer Lott Boutwell of Canton, MS and Amanda Lott of Madison, MS along with many other family and friends.
