Lonnie Michael “Mike” Bass, of Columbia, Mississippi, lost his battle with cancer on Friday, November 5, 2021 at the age of 60. He was raised “on the creek” near Baxterville, Mississippi and was a graduate of Purvis High School where was a Golden Glove boxer. Mike loved his family deeply and cherished every moment with his children and grandchildren. He was known as a “Jack of All Trades” and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing. Mike lived life to the fullest and would light up a room wherever he walked in. He found joy in little things, was always happy and enjoyed making others laugh. Though he was known to “cut loose” from time to time, Mike will be remembered for his great sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie H. and Frances Bass; a brother, Randy L. Bass; a niece and three nephews. Mike is survived by a daughter, Deanna Bass; two sons, Shane Bass and Christopher Bass; three sisters, Shirley Johnson, Doris Brewer (Bill), and Vondell Prine (Billy); four brothers, Hershel Bass, Bobby Bass, Joe Bass (Sarah), and Danny Bass (Darby); five grandchildren, Jeremy Bass, Caleb Bass, Sean Bass, Natalie Bass, and Deavannah Bass; numerous nieces and nephews; and his lifelong love, Darlane Williams.
The visitation for Mike will be at Colonial Funeral Home from 11:00am until 1:00pm on Thursday, November 11, 2021. The funeral service, officiated by Reverend Darel Daniels and Reverend Frankie Bryant, will follow in the funeral home chapel at 1:00pm. Burial will be in Caney Baptist Church Cemetery assisted by Joseph Johnson, Daniel Bass, Lavell Johnson, Shelby Bullock, Ricky Holloway, Rusty Broom, Christopher Johnson, Dusty Lambert, and Sean Bass serving as pallbearers.
