Pambo loved life and lived it to the fullest. She was very athletic and played basketball at Columbia High School and Columbia Academy where she graduated in 1972 and attended PRC and USM where she earned a degree in archeology. She loved to “dig” and traveled the world on a USM sponsored excavation to the Middle East. While there, she traveled to Egypt, Israel, Greece, Italy, and France.
Pambo never met a stranger and knew everyone’s name at the stores she frequented. She had conversations with all she met, wherever she happened to be. Her friends lived all over the United States and came from all walks of life. Her family named her “our Hippie” but she preferred “the Rebel”. She was both and we loved her for it.
We never knew what to expect from Pambo as she surprised us continually. She was an extra in the TV miniseries “Beulah Land” filmed in Natchez, MS in 1979 and worked offshore as a mud logger; was a guard in a men’s prison in Kindler, LA; she worked for the Census Bureau going door to door; moved to Santa Fe, NM and sold silver jewelry and while all this was going on, she went to flea markets, estate sales, auctions, and anywhere she could find bargains to sale for profit. She loved the part of her life of collecting and acquiring things. Her car was always loaded down with her “finds”. She was also an avid photographer always having a camera or video recorder in hand. She would talk with people for hours recording them telling stories of the old days. It was a family joke that she harassed the family for “pics” all the time.
Pambo loved animals. They were some of her best friends. She could never pass a dog or cat on the road without picking them up. She took care of them and tried finding homes for them but most of the time they ended up being hers forever. There was always a house full of animals her place. She also enjoyed the outdoors and when able, she worked in her yard, potted and grew lots of plants.
Pambo was preceded in death by her parents, O. Kenneth "Whitie" Stovall and Ouida Bell Anderson Stovall; and a brother-in-law, Danny G. Haddox.
She is survived by her sister, Beverly Stovall Haddox of Foxworth, MS, brothers, Kenneth W. Stovall, and Kevin D. Stovall, both of Columbia; a niece, Shelbi Marie Stovall (Phillip) of Aspen, MD; nephews, Jory C. Haddox (Christie) of Sumrall, MS, and Spencer Tate Stovall (Erin) of Hattiesburg, MS; four great-nephews Conner C. Haddox, Gunnar Haddox, Daniel Pierce, and Isaac Pierce; and numerous cousins and friends.
